Thank you for visiting my website. My name is Daniel Nagashima and I completed my doctoral degree in Foreign Affairs at the University of Virginia in May 2015. I am currently a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. My research interests are in the field of Comparative Politics and include comparative political institutions, electoral systems, party politics, and Japanese politics.
My dissertation examined why some parties in parliamentary democracies enter into pre-electoral coalitions while others do not. I utilize a mixed-method approach using statistical analysis and case studies to examine how electoral systems and bicameralism affect the probability of observing pre-electoral coalition formation. The project contributes to a growing number of works which examine the causes and consequences of coalition making in the pre-electoral arena. Please find my CV along with other information on my research and teaching experiences. |
